There are several accounts as to the beginnings of the world, and the Olympians. The most famous of which states that after defeating his father Cronus, the three brothers (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades) drew lots to determine his kingdom. Zeus drew first and was awarded the heavens as his domain. His supreme authority was never doubted or questioned. Zeus is known for his many extramarital affairs, becoming the father of several gods as well as other demi-gods and Greek heroes. Befitting the ruler of the Gods, Zeus's many personifcations and symobls also were associated as the rulers of their own domain. Zeus's bird was usually recognized as being the Eagle, although he turned himself into a swan in one myth.
